Jackie Ryan is a prize-winning Australian artist with an abiding interest in culture that connects her work across forms and genres. She authored We’ll Show the World: Expo 88 (UQP), which won two 2018 Queensland Literary Awards (the Queensland Premier’s Award for a Work of State Significance and the USQ History Book Award) and was shortlisted for a third (The Courier-Mail People’s Choice Queensland Book of the Year Award). She was also the recipient of a 2018 Queensland Writers Fellowship. Jackie writes and designs the Aurealis and Ledger Award-winning Burger Force comic book series, and is the founding editor of the comedy writing collective The Fanciful Fiction Auxiliary. She holds a PhD in History and Political Science from The University of Queensland.
… then there was that time when the Burger Force and FFA websites were archived by the National Library of Australia as sites of cultural significance, when those projects had art exhibitions at the Brisbane Powerhouse, when Jackie designed the original logo for the Queensland Literary Awards, directed music-videos for indie bands, appeared at festivals ranging from the Stan Lee Comikaze Expo in Los Angeles (for which she was invited to design a limited edition print) to Woodford Folk Festival, that time she wrote the didactic text for the Museum of Brisbane’s 25th anniversary of Expo 88 exhibition, those times she completed Vibrant Laneways design commissions for the Brisbane City Council, and that time she was an Honorary Research Fellow at UQ.
Jackie is represented by Alex Adsett Publishing Services; some of her visual artworks can be found right here at Onespace Gallery. Her art is also held in public and private collections.
