There’s a place I like to sit. When you sit in this place and look up to the sky, there is a blanket of leaves sheltering you. The leaves are from the pandanus, banksia, and paperbark trees. When you look out in front of you, you can see the sea and the waves dancing. I sat in this place and thought about my move to desert country. I began my year painting this canvas. I took this work to the desert with me and finished painting it there. On top of the layers of home country are layers of my new surroundings and then my thoughts of home, saltwater country, and this special place where I like to sit.
